Description: We are a smaller learning community with small classes – an alternative school for students who don't find traditional school successful. We have high-risk populations and offer adjusted academic programs to meet the individual need of the student. We have a flexible, extended school day structure with 50 minute classes.

Stellar Points: Six-week hexter; advisor/advocate teachers who remain with students through their years at FHS; smaller classrooms; one-on-one learning.

Special Offerings: We house the Phoenix Center, SOARS (Secondary Options for Achievement Resulting in Success), and other various learning options. We have a teen parent program, and we are the home school liaison. We have a sense of community where students have more control over their education in a flexible learning environment. For teen parents, first Step Learning assesses and assures proper development in babies of students. We have a Keystone/Capstone class where students have individual career & academic plans with a presentation of learning prior to graduation. Also, we have concurrent Front Range Community College enrollment. Our school calendar does not match the District calendar.

Extracurricular: Career Fairs, health fairs, music, art, foreign language, video, and field trips.

Climate: We have a close family environment that is individualized, personalized, and supported by a committed staff with a diverse wealth of knowledge and broad experience.

Accomplishments/Partnerships: Temple Buell – grants for child care program; scholarships from anonymous donation through Community Foundation of Northern Colorado; working more closely with parents.

Parent/Volunteer: Working on improving – parents who want to be involved are considering a PTO; creating an alumni association – 40 years!
